Project: CBA of Deworming Projects

Limestone Analytics conducted an economic analysis of World Vision Canada’s investments in deworming programs through its gifts-in-kind (GIK) portfolio. World Vision Canada works with GIK corporate partners to deliver deworming medication to World Vision national offices, which then provide medication to partners in low- and middle-income countries to support local deworming efforts.

Limestone’s economic analysis encompassed both cost-benefit analysis (CBA) and cost-effectiveness analysis (CEA). To launch the analysis, Limestone prepared a desk review of the GIK deworming program model, and a complementary literature review focused on deworming medications and their impacts. From this, Limestone identified the major expected impacts of the GIK-deworming interventions and developed a methodology to quantitatively estimate those. Limestone then constructed spreadsheet-based analytical models to estimate the costs and benefits of World Vision Canada’s investments in 19 GIK-deworming projects across 9 countries between 2019 and 2022.

Limestone delivered a final report to synthesize its analysis, highlighting the scope of the investments in GIK-deworming (more than 67 million individuals reached), the disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) averted and cases of mortality averted, and the cumulative and net social benefits of these investments.
