Strengthening higher education to align skills with PNG’s workforce needs.
DFAT Papua New Guinea (PNG) supports the PNG higher education sector, including through the Australia Awards Papua New Guinea (AAPNG) investment. AAPNG is a highly visible and long-standing element of Australia’s education support in PNG. AAPNG aims to assist PNG in achieving its development goals through education, knowledge transfer, institutional capacity building, and the strengthening of connections with Australia.
To inform how DFAT can best support the higher education sector and ensure alignment with PNG’s national priorities, DFAT PNG requested a series of studies. These studies examined selected higher education professional institutes, current and future labour market demand, and existing higher education scholarship programs. These findings were assessed against AAPNG’s investments to help identify opportunities to better align AAPNG with institutional needs, labour market priorities, and existing scholarship initiatives.
