Project: Online Tool: Cost of Inaction

Limestone Analytics successfully developed and launched the Cost of Inaction Tool for Nutrition International, an interactive web-based interface designed to support global advocacy for investment in nutrition. The dashboard quantifies the social and economic consequences of failing to address malnutrition in countries worldwide, answering the question: “What is the cost of inaction in nutrition in a given country or region, or the globe?”

This user-friendly, evidence-based platform was created through a rigorous process that included a technical review of Nutrition International’s cost of inaction model, a design workshop, and iterative dashboard development. The Limestone team worked closely with NI to ensure the dashboard was optimized for accessibility, clarity, and impact in advocacy contexts.

The tool integrates with costing tools to generate investment cases: comparing the monetary value of the benefits associated with nutrition investments and policies with their cost.

The live dashboard can be accessed here, and a related peer-reviewed publication discussing the methodology and implications of the dashboard is available in Health Policy and Planning: “The cost of inaction: a global tool to inform nutrition policy and investment decisions on global nutrition targets.

The dashboard now serves as a vital tool for policymakers, donors, and advocates to highlight the urgent need for investment in nutrition programs worldwide.
